A Vogel crystal begins with natural quartz, but its final form comes from the hand of a lapidary.
Unlike a natural quartz point, its long, double pointed silhouette and repeated facets are intentionally cut and polished. Our Vogel has twelve faces, shaped by hand in Brazil from one piece of quartz selected because its original proportions suited the design.
That first choice matters. The cutter is not forcing just any piece of quartz into a template. The material needs the right length, clarity and balance to carry the form.
Why twelve facets?
The twelve polished faces create a rhythm around the crystal. As light moves across them, inclusions and rainbow reflections can appear differently from one angle to the next.
They also reveal the quality of the handwork. The edges need to meet cleanly, the proportions need to feel balanced and both points need to belong to the same composition.
Where the name comes from
The cut takes its name from Marcel Vogel, an IBM researcher who later developed faceted quartz designs connected to his personal studies of focus and intention.
This piece was not made by Marcel Vogel. It was cut by hand in Brazil by our trusted lapidary partners, using a piece of quartz whose natural proportions suited the design.
Because of that history, Vogel crystals are often used in meditation and energy practices. These are spiritual interpretations, not established gemological properties.
At Ita, what we can see and value is tangible: natural quartz, thoughtful material selection, twelve faces finished by hand and Brazilian lapidary work that turns one piece into a precise, singular object.
